Getting to Indy by Plane, Bus, Car, and Bike

There are several ways to get to Indianapolis and several ways to get to the stadium once you’re in town.

Flying to Indianapolis

When you fly in to IND, you’ll be flying into one of North America’s newest and best-ranked airports. Flights from Delta, United, American Airlines, and Southwest plus several other regional and national airlines are available.

There are nearly 50 cities in the U.S. with direct flights here, including several daily from New York (LaGuardia International), Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco. Check with your preferred airline or visit IND.com to learn more.

Driving to Indianapolis

Indianapolis is within a day’s drive of 80% of the U.S. population. When you drive into town, keep these helpful tips in mind as you map your ride:

  • Interstate 69 is new in the southwest portion of the state. In fact, it's so new the final construction phase connecting directly into Indianapolis isn’t finished yet. Add travel time and follow detours carefully. I-69 is formerly Indiana Highway 37 and some maps and markers continue to show the older designation.
  • Parking on campus is available in multiple campus garages and lots for graduation day. See the map below for details. There is no reserved parking for IU Indianapolis Commencement. Follow signs and avoid parking in areas reserved for hospitals and hospital staff.

  • You can skip the parking line and park elsewhere in Downtown Indianapolis and walk, bus, or bike to campus. See more below on bus and bike service around campus.
  • Loading and unloading zones are strictly enforced.

Busing to and Around Indianapolis

You can bus to Indianapolis with Greyhound and FlixBus.

Once you’re in town, IndyGo is the local bus service. IndyGo operates thirty-nine fixed routes throughout the county as well as the new Red Line Rapid Transit line.

All fares on all IndyGo routes are $1.75 per trip and last for a two-hour window and many routes, including the Red Line, operate nearly all day.

Tips for Traveling by Bus:

  • Depending on your hotel location or where you’re driving from, you can “park and ride” in Broad Ripple at 6280 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46220. From there you're just a few steps to the Broad Ripple Station on College Avenue where you'll ride south to the Vermont Street Red Line Station, which is closest to campus.
  • IndyGo’s local routes 3, 10, and 37 serve IU Indianapolis' campus with stops along Michigan Street, just a few blocks away from Carroll Stadium.
  • Use Google Maps, Apple Maps, MyStop via your App Store, or the Transit App for detailed directions.

Biking in Indianapolis

The Pacers Bike Share is a great way to get to campus for only a few dollars, particularly if you or your family are staying in a hotel in Downtown Indy.

Rides are just $1 + 10 cents a minute, with most rides into campus from the furthest reaches of Downtown being about 15-20 minutes away. You can find a map and purchase advanced registration with your phone at PacersBikeShare.org.

You can also use Google Maps or the Transit App to combine bike and bus trips together.
